The documentary “THE ISLAND IN SILENCE” selected for the SAN SEBASTIAN LAU HAIZETARA FORUM (september 2026)

Thanks to the partnership between the LAU HAIZETARA Forum in San Sebastian and FIPADOC in Biarritz, the documentary “THE ISLAND IN SILENCE” has been selected to participate in the next edition of the forum in September 2026, as part of the 74th San Sebastian International Film Festival.
The project, produced by Carlos García (Mezquite Films) and directed by Mario Trujillo, stood out among 24 candidates in the “Pitchs Internationaux” section of the recent FIPADOC Biarritz (January 2026) for its innovative approach. The film portrays the rise of a new generation of independent journalists in Cuba from 2015 onwards, documenting the challenges they faced—surveillance, censorship, and ultimately exile—in order to practice their profession.
As part of the selection, the team will take part in specialized workshops prior to the forum, as well as in a pitching session. There, they will receive tools to enhance their presentation and their One to One meetings with key players in the international audiovisual industry, such as television networks, digital platforms, distributors, and institutions.
This ongoing collaboration continues to strengthen the presence and financing of documentary projects in specialized markets, facilitating their development and global visibility.
